Xin Ge, Associate Professor of Molecular Medicine
Kay & Ben Fortson Distinguished Chair in Neurodegenerative Disease Research
Xin earned his B.S. and M.S. in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Afterward, he obtained his Ph.D. from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada in the laboratory of Dr. Carlos Filipe. He then carried out postdoctoral research at University of Texas at Austin with Dr. George Georgiou. In the Summer of 2011, Xin joined the faculty of University of California Riverside in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, and in July 2021 he moved his lab to the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and became a member of the Institute of Molecular Medicine and Texas Therapeutics Institute.

Ki Baek Lee, Postdoc Scholar
Ki Baek earned his B.S. and M.S. in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering from Dongguk University, where he studied how to incorporate non-natural amino acids into proteins. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from University of California Riverside in 2020. He is interested in discovery and engineering of protease inhibitory mAbs for treatments of cancer, neuropathic pain, obesity, etc.

Zening Wang, Postdoc Scholar
Zening earned her B.S. in Bioengineering from Beijing University of Chemical Technology, and M.S. from University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she researched in metabolic engineering and microbial lipid production. She earned her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from University of California Riverside in 2021. She is interested in developing mammalian cell systems for directed evolution, and applying for engineering Fc, GPCR antibodies and TCR.

Xin Wei, Postdoc Scholar
Xin earned her B.S. in Laboratory Medicine from Hubei University of Chinese Medicine, and M.S. in Medicine from Wuhan University, where she studied bioactive components in natural drugs. She earned her Ph.D. in the laboratory of Dr. Tim Phoenix at University of Cincinnati in 2021. During her time at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Xin studied pediatric gliomas and blood-brain barrier (BBB), and developed spontaneous genetic mouse models. She is interested in developing therapeutic antibodies able to penetrate the BBB.

Rabiul Islam, Postdoc Scholar
Rabiul earned his B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from University of Dhaka, and M.S. from Tennessee State University, where he studied soft rot pathogen in plants. He earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry in laboratory of Dr. Christine Chow at Wayne State University in 2021. During his time at WSU, Rabiul developed antimicrobial peptides and studied their molecular mode of action. He also did a short-term postdoc with Dr. Wei Li at Baylor College of Medicine, where he developed DARPin phage libraries. He is interested in therapeutic antibody discovery and engineering.

Dong Hyun (Peter) Nam, Graduate Student and Postdoc Scholar

Gregory Jacobson, Undergraduate Researcher and Graduate Student
Gregory joined the lab in 2011 as an UG and enrolled in the Master program in 2012. He received his MS in 2014, and then joined SCAQMD as an Engineer.
Kuili Fang, Graduate Student

Carlos Rodriguez, Undergraduate Researcher

Long Chen, Graduate Student
Long joined the lab in 2013 and obtain his PhD in 2017. He then joined the Laboratory of Dr. Akram Alshawabkeh at Northeastern University as an Associate Research Scientist and now works at STC Biologics Inc.

Evan was an UG researcher in the Ge Lab from 2015 to 2016. After graduation, he works at Amphaster Pharmaceuticals as a Production Process Engineer.

Chuan Chen, Postdoc Scholar
Chuan obtained his PhD from Chinese Academy of Sciences, and from 10/2016 to 10-2019 he was a Postdoc Scholar in the Ge Lab. He then joined the Laboratory of Dr. Dimiter Dimitrov in the Department of Medicine at University of Pittsburg.
